The Word from Mathias
Hello there, fellow Old Skaters — it's Mathias Rabat, and I'm leading this year's summer program. I'm looking to bring a fresh approach and, hopefully, push a few of you out of your comfort zones along the way.
If you were expecting a summer of easy mini-ramp sessions and participation trophies, you might be in for a surprise. This program is built around the kind of skateboarding I love: raw, challenging, and rewarding. Get out, skate the streets, meet new people, make memories — and if you surprise yourself with a few new tricks along the way, mission accomplished. 🛹☀️
How it works
- 8 tricks for 8 weeks — one new trick revealed every Monday.
- Once a trick is out it stays open until the program ends — land them in any order, and catching up late costs you nothing.
- Each trick has a required type of spot — the point is to get out of the skatepark and explore.
- No filming-format obligation (filming a gap vertically is a nightmare).
- Last trick drops Mon 21 Sep; submissions close Sun 4 Oct.
Scoring
- +5 — trick landed
- +5 — skated on the right spot
- +2 — creativity on the spot
- +2 — clean / steez landing
- +10 — bonus for completing all 8 tricks
Tiebreaker: if there's a tie, Mathias announces one last, harder trick to get within 2 weeks — the winner is picked from the same score breakdown.
