Southampton Ice Rink - Petition.

UNITED SOUTHAMPTON SKATERS

Campaign to re-establish ice skating in Southampton.

Sign the petition NOW:
http://www.southampton-vikings.co.uk/petition.html

FORUM MEMBERS.........

I would like to bring to your attention, the current petition and campaigning issue's in order to secure and bring back an Ice Rink and skating in general, to SOUTHAMPTON.

The Southampton-Vikings website, (of which is the only current website whereby the supporters are actively seeking an Ice Venue for 'ALL' skaters to be re-instated to the City of Southampton)
http://www.Southampton-vikings.co.uk and now 'UNITED SOUTHAMPTON SKATERS' campaign, have upped-the-anti (so to speak)
with the view of forcing the issue/s to Southampton City Council to campaign for a new long awaited Ice venue for the city.

Natalie Murphy and many others in the Southampton area, from all the disciplines of the skating community, have been campaigning for the last 20 years to have the venue replaced after the Top Rank Ice Rink was suddenly closed and demolished by Rank leisure. (A place I know that many of you will have known well and have fond memories of!)

Please would you send any further comments or support, direct to Natalie at:
natalie@southampton-vikings.co.uk

This petition is for ALL skaters and to once again, have a venue to which the city can be proud of and to bring the skating community back onto the South Coast with a major venue. Previous attempts and plans can be viewed on the Southampton-Vikings website.

It would be very much appreciated if ALL members of this forum, responded to the petition and to help the campaign by forwarding on the petition link to all and as many contacts you may have, that would most definitely help highlight the need for a venue to be built in Southampton without further delay.

So my request to you all, is, PLEASE PLEASE sign the petition, forward it on and raise as much publicity, awareness and media coverage as you possibly can to get Southampton back into the skating community and back on the road to record and history books where it so deserves to be!
Southampton's Ice Dance, Ice Hockey and Speed Skating acquisitions and achievements have always been a talking point around the world and it is very sad to see that there is currently no venue to keep Southampton's ice skating history alive at this time.

I sincerely wish that you will all help with this matter and that Natalie will receive some much deserved help in her fight to put Southampton and ice skating back firmly onto the skating calendars and fixtures of the UK.

Kind Regards - John.

AHHH! i think you made a slight mistake  its not the girly lycra spinny round type of skating  :-*or the thuggy smashing peoples teeth in with sticks and pucking about type of skating Shocked. Its the shredding grinding ripping gnarly typ of skating and ice is far to slippy for that. Grin Grin

No Karl - quite the contrary...................  Many of the Southampton Ice skaters were left without an Ice Rink and the thoughtless council left the majority high & dry, hence the majority of players went onto Roller and inline Hockey right across the Southern region and beyond, so hence we are here to let you know of the re-incarnation of a facility that could well be in future, hosting ALL the types of skating that we all adore! Hope so anyway.

Cheers for the heads up though,

Regards - John.

Hi John

Good luck with the petition, but you might find more signatories on;

http://www.oldiceskaters.com/

or

http://www.oldrollerskaters.com/

maybe it's time to set those forums up?

This forum is generally for those with four wheels....

"Then the sheep broke out into a tremendous bleating of "Four legs good, two legs bad!" which went on for nearly a quarter of an hour and put an end to any chance of discussion."

...sprung to mind.

no offence to my four or eight wheeled comrades

Thought I'd add my tuppence worth

I'm not a greenie by any manner off means but ... isn't an ice rink an awful waste of energy in this day and age
for maybe a handfull of people to use ... build a skatepark, add a roof - not enclosed just keep it dry - thats it for the next 50 years, no electricity, no heating/cooling, no staff wages.

Still it's probably a better idea to ban kids skating in the street and confiscate their boards than to ever build a skatepark for them.

It's about money ... if you stop and think for a second.

I was simply stating that this is a Skateboarding site not Ice skating or roller skating or binlining. I tried to use the sarcastic type of humour that skateboarders use which was a waste of time. In short there is very little link between skateboarding and ice skating infact i can think of none. I know a lot of skateboarders an not one Ice skates or Inlines maybe 1 or 2 have rollerskated. There simply is no link between ice skating and skateboarding, i guess if i went on some ice skating web site and asked for backing to build a skatepark because the word skate appeared in the web site name i would get much the same response maybe without the sarcasm.
