After visiting oldskaters.com my interest in skateboarding has been revamped. Seeing the names, faces and places. It's been great!
To see that some of the old crew still skate, was even more fantastic!
I took my first skate in 25 years, with Dom Brown at Kings Park, then skated Potterne Bowl later in the day. It was great fun!

Is that the same set-up as in the "Skateboard" article?  Cool

Not quite the same, it's an old Warptail 2, Tracker full tracks, and white yoyo's. I do still have some of the bits in the old pictures though.....

Damn, I'd guessed they were Yo-Yo's and Full tracks, couldn't quite make out the deck though. Then I saw you were riding mids and Yo-Yo's in the other picture and it threw me.

Potterne? Where's that?

James, did you turn up at the Hayle bowl opening? You look familiar...

Anyway, looks like Potterne is between Salisbury and Swindon, if it's the same one:

@ Trevenen - No, not me I am afraid. I have literally only just started skating again. The last park, that I attended the opening, was Plymouth Zoo. (I remember having to skate the pipe with a broken wrist for the photo shoot!)

@ Alec - Potterne Park, Verwood. (nr Bournemouth) A small but fun bowl.

(Try entering "potterne skatepark" in to google)

Thanks James, I knew about Verwood but didn't know it was called Potterne Park, I thought that a skatepark might have sneaked under the radar into the village of Potterne (2 miles south of Devizes)

That's a shame we could have had a humorous limerick about it:

There once was a bowl near Devizes....
With hips of different sizes....
etc.. Roll Eyes

Hi James,

Hows it going you old Stoat! This is Rob, one of the old Skate Escape Crew - Wareham Chapter!
We used to come down at weekends often with Steve Grounds don't know if you can remember that far back?

I was speaking to Mark from Wareham and he was saying how he'd bumped into Dom (Piggy) down in Weymouth and they were both skating at the time with their kids! Apparently he'd only recently had to trade up from the "pigstick"!

Hopefully catch up for a skate one of these days. I'm in Surrey (almost Greater London) these days but going down to visit Mark and his family in Wareham soon.

Are you still surfing?

Whats Steve Narroway up to these days?

Questions, Questions!

Take it easy.

@Rich J - It was also nice to meet you guys!  Grin

Rob A - Yes, I remember you, and the Wareham Crew!  Grin

I have been skating with Dom recently, and he did mention bumping into Mark...

Yes, still surfing - never gave up, but now I am 46 years old, I like to complain about the water temperature. (plus anything else, I can think to complain about!)

Are you skating Rob??

Hi James, great to hear from you.

Yes I am still skating and have just recently built my own 1/4 pipe and a mini ramp!

I hear where you're coming from with the complaining - I'm 44 in a few days time - big up the grumpy old men!!

I have a few shots of Portland, as was - even one of me on that 44" Taperkick that Lorne had, didn't he get it off Frank Blood or something? I need to get a scanner and sort out a website as I have loads of photos of the old Southbank Boyz circa 1980-88 as well as various other shots of various old parks.

Do you still see anything of Lorne?

I speak to Mark fairly regularly so will mention getting in contact with you. It would be good to all meet up for a session in Weymouth sometime and have a whinge about how much our knees creak now and how "it wasn't like that in our day!"

Anyway I feel a quick skate coming on before the darkness decends!

Take it easy.

Rob Ashby
