Old Parks now long gone
« on: March 03, 2008, 01:19:36 AM »

I ran across some video that I think some of the old timers might appreciate.I certainly had many  great memories jogged out  once I saw it.I wish I had bothered to take photos back then but that would have been money wasted that I could spend on skating.

For those old enough to remember, Darien Lake used to have a semi decent skate park. The first park shown is just as I remember it other than the main bowl had a large kicker added to provide real vert.A lot of great times were had by many there and the Pepsi Plexiglas ramp used to show up on occasion as well.

The second park shown was called BJ's and it was in the old Hamilton Spectator building. This was an awesome park and I miss it  a lot.Imagine how much money the park would pull now if it had survived skating  dying out for awhile in the 80's.I can still smell the urethane and see the great bowls etc.It was full concrete with a massive snake run and bowl combo,a full concrete halfpipe that was challenging,a kidney bowl with vert extension,a small baby bowl and a freestyle area with kickers all around.

Hopefully some of you remember these parks and the video brings back memories of a great era.

WOW, quite the skatepark back in the day!

Check out www.seylynn.com to see a clip from a movie about Seylynn, Canada's oldest surviving skatepark. The video has lost of original footage & an interview with one of the designers.

Tale a look at Seylynn on skateparktour.ca http://www.skateparktour.ca/BC/VanN_Seylynn.htm
