Recommended Vert deck, truck, wheel dimension?
« on: July 03, 2007, 08:00:44 PM »

Any advice on what is considered as standard size-wise for halfpipe vert these days? I am talking about the modern type boards that don't know there tail from there nose Smiley
So far I've been using a 8.5 by 32 inch double kicktail deck with some recently acquired  "Danny Way" 60 mm wheels (which I really like btw) on  Indi trucks...But it does seem to be rather on the heavy side, and over these past few days, the deck seems to be getting wider 4 me (was like standing on a lollipop stick initially)...Reckon I could go down to an 8" if it made a difference.

What's the word chaps? what do you recommend?

Many thanks

Something around 7.8 - 7.9 for me (taller and big feet), usually a Deluxe board  with a deep'ish concave (Krooked/Anti Hero/Real etc - nice shapes), Indy 139's or Thunder Hi 147's and either Satori or Spitfire 55's, Bones bearings...lovely!

Thanks for the advice Rodga /Tony, very helpful indeed. I think a 7.8/9 might be a good transitional board for me as I am only 5f 7" but do have size 13 feet;  I'll pop down to local skateshop and stand on a few blanks for a feel-up session Smiley

Hey Tony, what is a "Deluxe" board? Better quality maple/laminate press/glue or somat?

Are blanks just as good as those decks with the fancy graphics?

Decks go for about £50 at my shop (gulp)...Any links for better prices?

Cheers!

PS, just clowning around about the feet

Hey Marc

Deluxe is the San Francisco home of Tommy Guerrero, Jim Thiebaud, Real, Anti Hero, Krooked, Spitfire, Thunder, Indy, Venture, Lucky etc, I like their boards, trucks and wheels the best, they feel good under my old clown feet (dlxsf.com).

If you want to keep it local, the charmingly monikered Heroin and Death both make really nice shapes as well, I'd always support skater owned companies, blanks don't help folks out as much.

There's a bunch of new technologies, materials and layering techniques as always, but I don't know if you can beat a maple 7 ply...

I'd think £40 - 50 is still about average for a deck, you'll pay a little bit less/more depending where you buy, but places like Slam, Halfpipe, CIDE, Skate Of Mind etc in London should have loads for you to try, unless everythings changed in the couple of years it's been since I left..
