Hi, Has anyone seen any pics of gillingham floating around on the web? I've just stumbled across this site and I realised a lot of my memory has been erased by the liquor and jazz! It was the 1st concrete i ever skated. have vague memories of fidds on a zorlac devil fish pulling methods out of the snake pool thing, and i think billy smith? emptying out an army duffle bag and selling his old zorlac tee's on the grass bank. also does anyone remember a gigantic empty resevoir in gillingham ? carl (cant remember surname?) led us on a mission to get there through bushes and barbwire, was trying to look for it on google earth!

cheers, andy Huh

Andy,

Carl here, yes as far as I know the large resevoir is still there, I will get the google earth ref and post is here shortly. It is an old army resevoir which is very deep and needs to be climbed down by a 20 year old metal lader. Banked all around in a L shape with hips. Andy I know quite a few ,at a guess its not Andy from Bromley at the time? PS see my other posts I have hours of Gillingham skatepark footage from the 80s.

As promised here is the coordinates of the spot, its still there.

lat=51.3872001438, lon=0.532441341941

Zoom in on these coordinates and you will see just how big this place is. You wouldn't know it was there unless you were shown it. Through the woods, under the barbed wire fence further through the woods and then climb up the concrete fence and hey presto.

For everyone who remembers the old Gillingham Skatepark you may be interested in a new site which is currently being compiled at www.gillinghamskatepark.com

A quick question to all you knowlegable old school skaters. Gillingham pool had numbers painted just under the coping on different sides of the pool. Did these numbers actually mean anything. I'm sure the builder concrete constructions in the 70s would have replicated the painting of numbers on other pools etc built by them at the time. Any ideas?
