SKATE SHACK BARROW IN FURNESS!!!
« on: April 20, 2005, 04:58:00 AM »

Does anyone remember the skate shack in Barrow In Furness...any old pics or does anyone know what happened to many of the first timers there.  Before it was taken over and basically fell apart.

It's awesome to see so many familiar names on here!

yeah I used to love skating there with you guys...I remember Milly, Taggi, Russ and my brother Mike bringing me over to Washington/Newcastle to skate with you guys.

How the hell are you doing now anyway?  I wonder a lot about what happened to most of the guys I skated with over there.  My brother Mike and I moved back to the states, now I skate and hang out over here in San Jose.

Keep in touch Rocker...

Hi, Im from preston and used to be a regular at the shack most weekends.

I remember the place well, used to get off at Roose and walk down the tracks to get there.

The place had the sketchiest street course...EVER! The hip mini with the tombstone was sweet and the mini mini was great fun too.

It was breifly reopened around 5 years ago, although im not sure if it was officially opened to the public.

Theres some photos and vids here: http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/shack/index1.html

If your looking for footage of the original layout, see if you can grab a copy of 'Deathbox - Spirit of the blitz' theres plenty on that Smiley

I see on some of the pics that SKEN put a link too that there are pictures of my mate Stu Dodd in there...nice little ramp sequence...

Does anyone know what Milly is up to nowadays?  I heard he went to jail for some stupid shit but should be out by now.

Ive heard that it was remastered and put on dvd a while back, akthough ive never seen it available anywhere.

You'll know Phil Proctor then wont you if you recognise your mate from the pics.

yeah I know Proccy,...what's that sketchy skating bastard doing nowadays anyway?  He actually got pretty crazy with his skating before I moved away and got away from the Barrow scene.  He was doing these huge, HUGE, ollies and silly flip tricks and all that.  He was also skating with Egg and a bunch of the next round of shack people.  I never really hung out with those guys too much though.  They were more street and barrow ramp and I skated mostly indoors and mini ramp.  I kinda wished I'd branched out more back then, but I'm skating more varied stuff now.

Do you ever speak to Proccy and those guys?

I dont actually know him personally. However we,ve become mates on a different forum, we met purely by chance as he was looking for an old video (zero hero - zorlac) that i had.it was him that gave me the link for those shack pics.

Hes living in london now, and still skating, he rips mini, and had won a few comps recently.

Wow!  That freaking rules!!! I'm glad to hear he stuck it out...he used to be soooo sketchy...it was funny.  He would skate around, arms flapping, and his fakie rocks and hang ups would also just clang out on the coping, it was funny at the time.  But man, when I saw him start coming out with all these crazy as tricks inside the ramp, you knew he was going to rip.  Hey do me a favor and get me his email address so I can get in touch with him.

That would be way cool!

I'm too from the Preston area and used to skate the shack back in the day with the likes of maughn, Strawberry, Shortie etc. It's still there, with ramps, but unfortunately not the original ones... They got ripped out after Paul Arts (BMX'er)  took over and couldn't pay the rent. It was then used as dog kennels for a few years before they scraped all the dog sh!t out and built new ramps.

Gotta say Rocker that the fakie 540 grab over the spine in you section in Spirit of the Blits is par excelance!

Like you say, thay don't make parks like that anymore, shame, many a happy weekend spent up in the middle of nowhere!

it's amazing that some of the best days of my life were spent in a dusty old wearhouse with a bunch of sweaty f@#kers.  Rocker used to do some of the sickest sh@t in that place.  Like airs to noseblunt over the volcano and other crazy crap.  Ian Millard, "Milly" was the guy to watch in that place though,....faster than anyone I've ever seen.  He would do mayday grinds up the escalator and then pull them in on the 7ft extension then air from the 7ft to the back of the 8ft short vert extension and nose blunt it in.

crazy days.

my fav was feeble grinds for days in that place.
